Peach and Raspberry Sangria

Well, guys, I done gone and jinxed myself.

You know how last week I posted about this Multigrain Sourdough Boule and how proud I was to have kept my sourdough starter alive for so long?

Um…well…Methuselah is with us no longer.

See…I fed him on Wednesday evening, like a good sourdough momma, and left him out on the counter overnight to do his ferment-y thang. Only, I forgot to put in BACK in the refrigerator before I left for the weekend on Thursday…turns out, putting your starter back in the fridge is a pretty crucial step to keeping it from attracting every fruit fly on the planet. This was discovered on Saturday when I returned to my apartment.

This means that 1.) I have to snag some starter from my momma this upcoming weekend and 2.) I’ve become adept at killing fruit flies. Apparently putting out a small bowl of cider vinegar mixed with a few drops of dish soap will take down those suckers in no time. The death count as of Monday at 11 am was 28. As I write this (around 7 pm on Monday), I’ve slain an additional 7.

Sorry I just made you listen to me talk about killing fruit flies. Hows ’bout I talk about booze instead? You probably need it after all of that.

In order to understand why alcohol was a necessity and not an option during The Great Move of 2013, you need to see the stairs that you must climb in order to reach my apartment:

There’s three flights of them. They’re rickety, and old, and those turns are kind of {very} narrow.

And so, after moving quite a few boxes up these stairs in 100-degree heat, I made my momma and I some peach and raspberry sangria. Alongside some pizza, it was the perfect way to relax and recharge. It’s fruity and light and oh-so-perfect for these long summer days and warm summer nights.

I totally didn’t intend for that to rhyme.

  1. Methuuuuuuselaaaaaaaaah, Nooooooo! He will be missed. Aren’t summer bugs such a bummer?? You guys definitely deserved that sangria and pizza after battling those stairs, WOW!! This sangria looks amazing!

  2. Haha those stairs look horrible. I’m moving to my new apartment next weekend, will definitely be needing a pitcher of that Sangria! The color is gorgeous.

  3. I am alsways looking for new Sangria recipes and I really like the combination of peaches and raspberries.I have never tried it with Moscato, so I definitely have to make this drink.

    1. I kind of like my sangria a little on the sweet side, so the moscato was perfect for me. If you prefer it a little more dry, you could definitely use your favorite white wine. (Although I think the sweeter wine pairs nicely with the peaches and raspberries.)

  4. Those look so much like my stairs to the laundry room! Watching me try to carry my hamper up and down them must be quite a show…On another note, this looks delicious and I need to make it ASAP 🙂

  5. I am sorry for your loss. Methuselah will be missed!

Um also those stairs — yuck. Sangria was definitely a good call.

  6. Goodbye to your dear starter. He lived a great and variety filled life. He was in everything from muffins to bread. Umm… but those stairs. Yes, they are dangerous, but I feel like you need to sneak out there and use that white wood as a background for your pictures!!!
I wish I could have a glass of this beautiful sangria. Until then, pinned for later.

    1. Blogger fail: I totally didn’t even THINK of using those stairs for pics!! HA can you imagine if Jackass came out the back door and found me out there with my food and camera?
