I learned a new trick today!

Since it was so nice outside today (and by nice, I mean 45 degrees, shockingly “warm” for the Midwest in January), and the gym at the university doesn’t open again until Monday, I decided to go for a run outside.

I thought my lungs might collapse.

But my near-death-by-running is not the point. The point is that, upon finishing my workout, I needed something to revive me, so I decided to make a Green Monster for my lunch. (Side note: I swear you can’t taste the spinach.)

A couple of weeks ago, I saw online (I cannot for the life of me remember where) where someone had replaced their blender doohickey (don’t judge me, my brain is tired) with a jar when making smoothies – the idea being that you then drink the smoothie straight from the jar. I didn’t really know if it would work, but the idea of having one less thing to clean totally appealed to me.

And it did work! Just take the blade from your blender and screw it onto the top of a jar filled with your smoothie ingredients. I used a quart-sized jar here, but if you were making a smaller drink you could probably get away with using a smaller jar. Blend, remove the blade, and drink up! OR replace the blade with a lid and take it with you to work for breakfast. Stick it in the freezer for later enjoyment. Whatever you want!

You could also use this same trick to make and store salad dressings that require blending. Bingo.

    1. I know, I certainly can’t afford a Magic Bullet so I was quite excited to figure this out! Now that money can go towards something else 😉
