Crescent roll veggie pizza is a classic, crowd-pleasing Midwestern appetizer. A crescent roll crust is topped with a creamy blend of cream cheese and ranch seasoning and topped with your favorite crunchy veggies. It only requires about 15 minutes of hands-on time and can easily be made the day before a party or holiday dinner.

If you didn’t grow up in the Midwest, you might not know: A party just isn’t a party around here if the appetizer selection doesn’t include ranch and/or cream cheese. (Ideally there will also be a bowl of Chex Mix somewhere, but that’s another topic for another time.)
I mean, there’s a reason my cream cheese ranch roll ups literally disappear from any gathering I take them to. Us Midwesterners just don’t know how to handle ourselves when you combine ranch and cream cheese.
When I was growing up, my grandmother always made a ton of appetizers and snacks for Christmas Eve in lieu of a formal sit-down dinner. This crescent roll veggie pizza was always on the menu and was one of the things my cousins and I beelined to first every year.
If you’ve never had this veggie pizza appetizer, you’ve been missing out! It’s simply a crescent roll crust topped with a ranch cream cheese mixture and your favorite chopped raw veggies. You get the flaky crescent crust, creamy ranch mixture, and crunchy veggies.
It’s also perfect for making ahead of a party. Bring it to a game-day party or tailgate, serve it at Thanksgiving or Christmas, or whip it up for a movie night. It’s so easy and always a hit!
What readers are saying
“Great addition to any gathering. I make it for Christmas with red and green bell peppers in addition to the other veggies. For Mother’s Day, I’ll also be adding shredded cheddar cheese and chopped black olives. If you like a little kick, use the fiesta ranch dry dressing. This is a recipe that is easy and fun to customize for different occasions and tastes.” -Cheryl Anne

One of the best things about making this veggie pizza appetizer is just how few ingredients you actually need.
- Crescent roll dough: You can use a regular tube of crescent rolls, but many stores now carry crescent roll dough sheets. This makes it even easier because all you have to do is roll it out and bake the crust. If you use regular crescent rolls, you’ll need to press the seams together before baking.
- Cream cheese: Softened to room temperature for the creamiest texture.
- Mayonnaise: This adds flavor and keeps the ranch mixture softer than just using cream cheese alone.
- Ranch seasoning: You can use a packet of ranch dressing mix or homemade ranch seasoning. If using the homemade stuff, you’ll need to use 3 tablespoons to equal a 1-ounce packet.
- Vegetables: Chopped raw veggies are the star of the show here! We always like an assortment—you’ll need about 4 cups total. For some suggestions, scroll down to “what veggies to use.” Just make sure the pieces are small so everything is easy to eat!

What veggies to use
Any crunchy vegetable that you’d eat raw is great for topping your veggie pizza. If you’d consider putting it on a crudité platter with ranch dip or white bean dip, it’s probably a good choice here.
Small pieces of broccoli and cauliflower florets are always popular, as are shredded carrots. My family also likes thinly sliced radishes or radishes cut into small matchsticks.
Depending on the season, you could even use shaved raw asparagus or sliced sugar snap peas.
Diced bell peppers and even chopped black olives are also great options!
If you want to use cherry or grape tomatoes, I would quarter those and wait to add them until just before serving so they don’t weep and make the pizza soggy.

Make ahead and storage tips
Crescent roll veggie pizza needs to chill for at least 2 hours before slicing and serving, so it’s already a great make-ahead appetizer option. You can make the entire thing up to a day ahead of time; just keep it covered in the fridge until it’s time to slice and serve it.
If you need to prep more than a day in advance, you can make the ranch cream cheese mixture up to 3 days ahead of time. Store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator until you’re ready to assemble the pizza.
Most of the vegetables you might use can also be washed and chopped 2-3 days ahead of time. Keep them in separate containers in the fridge until it’s time to go.
Store veggie pizza leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. The crust might start to get a bit soft by the third day, but the flavor will still be great.

Notes
Ingredients
- Most mainstream grocery stores carry tubes of crescent roll dough sheets. These contain the same amount of dough as a regular tube of crescent rolls, but do not have the perforations. If using the dough sheets, you will not need to press the perforations together and can simply unroll the dough onto the baking sheet and bake as directed.
- Any crunchy vegetable that you might add to a crudité platter works well here, such as finely chopped broccoli and cauliflower florets, shredded carrots, thinly sliced radishes or radish matchsticks, thinly sliced sugar snap peas, etc.
Baking sheet
- You can use a half-sheet pan, jelly roll pan, or any mid-size to large-size baking sheet.
- I find that it is not necessary to grease the pan before laying out the dough, but you can absolutely spray it with a bit of nonstick spray if you are worried about the crust sticking.
Make ahead
- Veggie pizza can be assembled up to a day ahead of time. Store covered in the refrigerator; cut into squares just before serving.
Storage
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Do not freeze.

Frequently asked questions
No, you really need the dry mix for this recipe! Bottled ranch dressing is too runny and the flavor won’t be as strong as when you use the dry mix.
No, do not freeze your veggie pizza. The ranch cream cheese is likely to split, and freezing will change the texture of the vegetables.
This recipe really needs fresh, raw veggies. The crunchy texture of the vegetables is one of the best parts of this appetizer—you want the contrast in texture of the crescent roll crust, creamy ranch mixture, and the vegetables. The process of freezing and thawing changes the texture of the vegetables, so frozen vegetables are never as crunchy as fresh.

In addition to my grandma’s veggie pizza recipe and her famous cream cheese ranch roll ups, it’s hard to beat my aunt’s pineapple pecan cheese ball. For a holiday party, cranberry cream cheese dip is also always a hit.
For the tortilla roll up fans, buffalo chicken pinwheels and pimento cheese pinwheels are two more great recipes. I always make my pinwheels the night before a party!

Well, I can’t claim to be newly married anymore (10 years!) but this looks great and I’m always on the lookout for more vegetarian party options.
I make this all the time! LOVE it (so does everyone else) always requested, I used the same veggies too! I get the bag that has the mix of broccoli, cauliflower & carrot & put them in the food processor so they are smaller pieces though, and then I tip with shredded cheddar YUMMM
